Job Description

Do you have experience working with VA disability claims and a passion for helping veterans obtain the benefits they have earned through their service? Our growing disability law firm is seeking an experienced Veterans Disability Paralegal to join our team.

We are specifically looking for candidates who have worked with VA disability claims, either at a veterans disability law firm, a veterans service organization, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.


This is not a general legal assistant position. The ideal candidate will already be familiar with the VA claims and appeals process, medical and service records, VA forms, evidence development, and client communication in veterans' disability cases.


In this role, you will work closely with attorneys and veterans throughout the claims and appeals process. Responsibilities include opening and maintaining case files, obtaining and organizing evidence, reviewing and categorizing records, preparing VA forms and appeals, communicating with clients regarding case status and development needs, monitoring deadlines, and helping ensure that every veteran receives exceptional representation. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, compassionate, and capable of managing multiple cases in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to client service.

Compensation: $22 - $25+ hourly depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:
  • Take care of administrative tasks such as answering phones and maintaining an organized filing system for all legal documents
  • Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
  • Assist attorneys with the preparation, development, and prosecution of veterans disability claims and appeals before the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Open, organize, and maintain electronic case files, ensuring all documents are accurately categorized and readily accessible.
  • Obtain, review, and organize medical records, military service records, VA records, and other supporting evidence.
  • Review claims files and identify missing evidence, records, or development needed to support a veteran's claim.
  • Prepare and submit VA forms, correspondence, appeals, and other case-related documents.
  • Assist with the preparation of appeals before the Board of Veterans' Appeals, including evidence development and file organization.
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, evidence requests, deadlines, and next steps in the claims process.
  • Monitor and track filing deadlines, appeals deadlines, and other critical case milestones.
  • Coordinate with medical providers, government agencies, and other third parties to obtain records and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and ensure all client communications and case activities are properly documented.
  • Work closely with attorneys and team members to develop and implement case strategies.
  • Provide exceptional client service to veterans and their families throughout the representation process.
  • Assist with Social Security Disability claims and appeals as needed.
  • Perform additional administrative and case management duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates should possess high-level organizational skills, and time-management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Prior experience with VA disability claims and appeals.
  • Experience working with VA disability claims, either at a veterans disability law firm, veterans service organization, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Familiarity with VA.gov, VBMS, C-File review, medical evidence development, and appeals before the Board of Veterans' Appeals
  • Ability to draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence under the guidance of a lawyer.
  • Proven track record of organizing and maintaining case files, ensuring all documents are readily accessible.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and coordinate with government adjudicators.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing and organizing exhibits and conducting research on legal articles.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to client service.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and categorizing records, and preparing VA forms and appeals efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage caseload responsibilities.
