Job Description

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a lifestyle magazine based in New York, NY, for a Junior Copy Editor to join their editorial team. This is a great opportunity for a detail-obsessed word person to support senior editors in polishing feature stories, columns, and digital content before they go live, while working fully remote for a well-known name in lifestyle media.

Day to day, you will be proofreading drafts against the house style guide, catching inconsistencies, fact-checking small details, and flagging anything that needs a second look before it reaches the senior editorial team. People who thrive in this role love language, notice things others skim past, stay calm under tight deadlines, and take pride in making every sentence a little cleaner than they found it.

Responsibilities

  • Proofread articles, headlines, and captions for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy
  • Check copy against the publication's style guide and AP style conventions
  • Flag factual inconsistencies or unclear phrasing for senior editors to review
  • Assist with light content edits to improve clarity and flow
  • Track revisions and maintain version control across editorial drafts
  • Collaborate with writers and senior editors during the editing and revision process
  • Support final quality checks before articles are published online or in print
  • Maintain and help update the internal style guide as standards evolve
  • Meet daily and weekly editorial deadlines in a fast-paced publishing environment
  • Organize and prioritize a queue of incoming articles awaiting review

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
  • Strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Familiarity with AP style or willingness to learn quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to catch subtle errors
  • Strong time management skills to handle multiple deadlines at once
  • Comfortable giving and receiving editorial feedback
  • Prior internship or freelance editing experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and content management systems
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401k plan with employer match
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
  • Fully remote position with flexible working hours
  • Home office stipend for remote equipment
  • Professional development and continuing education support
  • Collaborative, supportive editorial team culture
  • Opportunities for growth into senior editorial roles
  • Employee wellness program
  • Paid parental leave
