Under general supervision from the Education Administrator I in the High School Innovations and Initiatives Office (HSIIO) and the Director of the Career and College Transition Division and working cooperatively with program units and supervisors throughout the California Department of Education (CDE), the Education Programs Consultant (EPC) will provide statewide technical assistance, leadership, oversight, and coordination of programs and policies to local educational agencies (LEAs) in accordance with the California Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Consolidated State Plan and Title I dropout prevention strategies and implementation efforts which includes supporting educational options; Independent Study, Home and Hospital; reducing Chronic Absenteeism and increasing student achievement.
This EPC serves as Chair of the State School Attendance Review Board (SARB). The EPC’s primary focus is dropout prevention for students who are at-risk due to their chronic absenteeism, habitual truancy, persistent behavior problems, mental health, or other barriers to education. The EPC provides leadership and technical assistance in the general areas of student mental health, child welfare and attendance, school social work, and promotes interagency cooperation to support high-risk students.
The EPC administers the Model SARB Recognition Program, works collaboratively to identify, review, and disseminate high-quality student support resources for dropout prevention. The EPC reviews and makes available high-quality dropout prevention resources based on model programs to Title I programs. The special focus is on strategies to reduce high subgroup chronic absenteeism rates and suspension rates as well as strategies to improve school climate as measured in the Local Control and Accountability Plans.

TELEWORK OPTION
HYBRID
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of two days per week in the office.

• Ability to work effectively in both independent and diverse multi-task team environments.
