CNC Machinist - Tool & Die

Worcester, Massachusetts | Onsite | $25-$33 per Hour | Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with strong tool-and-die and/or jig-and-fixture experience. This person will plan machining sequences and fabricate, assemble, repair, inspect, and refine jigs, fixtures, tools, dies, and master tooling. The work combines CNC and conventional machining with hands-on fitting, grinding, polishing, inspection, and problem-solving.

Core Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and CAD/CAM files to determine tooling requirements.
• Plan the sequence of machining, fabrication, assembly, repair, and related tooling operations.
• Set up and operate CNC, mechanically controlled, conventional, and manual machine tools.
• Produce precision parts, instruments, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and master tooling from a range of materials.
• Calculate and verify workpiece dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances.
• File, grind, fit, adjust, smooth, and polish components so assemblies function properly.
• Inspect completed work for dimensions, finish, fit, defects, and conformance to specifications.
• Test completed tools, fixtures, and dies and make adjustments when necessary.
• Support repair, improvement, and manufacturing research/development work as assigned.
• Maintain an organized, safe work area and follow OSHA, ISO, environmental, hazardous-waste, and emergency-response procedures.
• Communicate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other team members.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least five years of manufacturing experience.
• At least five years of tool-and-die and/or jig-and-fixture experience.
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating machine tools.
• Experience fabricating jigs, fixtures, tools, dies, or master tooling.
• Ability to interpret tool-design drawings, blueprints, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Demonstrated ability to produce finished components from a concept or engineering drawing.
• Ability to work effectively with little or no direct supervision.
• Strong organization, multitasking, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience across both CNC and conventional/manual machining.
• Working knowledge of CAD/CAM files and manufacturing methods.
• Knowledge of ISO compliance and certification procedures.
• Experience inspecting, fitting, testing, repairing, and refining precision tooling.
• Experience in bearings, metal stamping, precision machining, or a closely related manufacturing environment.
