Job Description

GD Resources LLC is seeking four (4) qualified Class 1 Boiler Plant Operators to support the Fayetteville VA Medical Center in North Carolina.

The selected operators will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, monitoring, testing, and maintenance of high-pressure boiler systems and associated plant equipment. Candidates must possess a current North Carolina High-Pressure Stationary Engineer Certification and have substantial experience operating high-pressure industrial or commercial steam boiler systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Boiler Plant Operator will be responsible for:

  • Operating and monitoring high-pressure steam boilers and associated equipment.
  • Monitoring steam pressure, temperature, water levels, fuel systems, and combustion conditions.
  • Operating feedwater systems, pumps, compressors, fuel systems, water treatment equipment, and related auxiliary systems.
  • Monitoring gauges, meters, automated controls, BMS/SCADA systems, and safety devices.
  • Adjusting boiler controls to maintain safe and efficient operating conditions.
  • Performing routine sampling and testing of boiler feedwater, condensate, and cooling water.
  • Adjusting chemical treatment systems and operating blowdown systems based on water-quality test results.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on boilers, burners, pumps, valves, piping, controls, and related equipment.
  • Identifying equipment malfunctions and operational abnormalities and performing basic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Safely isolating equipment and performing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when required.
  • Maintaining accurate shift logs documenting operating conditions, water quality, fuel consumption, maintenance, and incidents.
  • Immediately reporting safety hazards, equipment failures, environmental concerns, and significant operational incidents.
  • Following applicable OSHA, environmental, boiler safety, VHA, and North Carolina regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • A current and valid North Carolina High-Pressure Stationary Engineer Certification / Boiler License , or an equivalent credential recognized by the State of North Carolina.
  • Class 1 Stationary Engineer certification appropriate for high-pressure boiler operations.
  • 3 5 years of direct experience operating high-pressure industrial or commercial steam boiler systems.
  • Strong knowledge of boiler controls, burner management systems, pumps, and water treatment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with boiler plant safety procedures and applicable environmental regulations.
Required / Preferred Safety Training

Candidates should possess or be able to provide:

  • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification
  • Confined Space Entry certification
  • PPE and industrial safety training
  • Water treatment certification or relevant water-treatment training
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be capable of:

  • Working in environments involving significant heat and noise.
  • Climbing ladders and accessing elevated equipment.
  • Working in confined or restricted areas when required.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds .
  • Performing extended periods of standing, walking, monitoring, and equipment inspection.
Work Schedule

The position requires 24/7 plant coverage using a 28-day, 12-hour rotating shift schedule .

Operators will participate in scheduled shift handovers with approximately 15 minutes of overlap to communicate plant conditions, ongoing maintenance, equipment status, and active alarms.

Performance Expectations

Successful operators are expected to:

  • Maintain reliable and complete shift coverage.
  • Maintain accurate and timely operational records.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and requirements.
  • Maintain boiler water chemistry within required operating parameters.
  • Promptly identify and report equipment or safety issues.
  • Escalate significant operational incidents immediately, with major issues reported within approximately 15 minutes of occurrence.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout the assignment.
Important Certification Requirement

A current North Carolina High-Pressure Stationary Engineer Certification/Class 1 Boiler License is an essential requirement for this position. Candidates must be able to provide proof of the required certification and maintain it in good standing throughout the assignment.
